This site should work for everyone. Tell us where it doesn't.
We target WCAG 2.2 Level AA across every page. An organisation whose purpose is safety and inclusion cannot publish a website that excludes people.
The standard we work to
This site is designed and built to conform with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA(opens in a new tab), and follows the New Zealand Government Web Accessibility Standard as good practice.
What we have done
Keyboard access throughout
Every interactive element is reachable and operable by keyboard, with a clearly visible focus indicator. Menus and dialogs trap focus while open and return it when closed. There are no keyboard traps.
Support reachable first
The first skip link on every page goes to crisis support and helpline numbers — ahead of the main content — so someone navigating by keyboard or screen reader never has to traverse the site to find help.
Reduced motion respected
If your device is set to reduce motion, animation is switched off, smooth scrolling is disabled and 3D scenes are replaced with static compositions. No information is only available through animation.
Contrast
Text meets or exceeds a 4.5:1 contrast ratio against its background (3:1 for large text), and non-text interface elements meet 3:1. Text over animated scenes carries an additional shadow to guarantee the ratio holds.
Charts you can actually read
Data visualisations are built as semantic HTML tables with captions and scoped headers, then styled as charts. Screen readers get a real table, and every value is directly labelled rather than hidden behind a hover tooltip.
Never colour alone
Status, risk levels and data confidence are always conveyed with text and shape as well as colour.
Text and zoom
Type is set in relative units and reflows without loss of content or function up to 400% zoom. Pinch-zoom is never disabled.
Targets and spacing
Interactive controls meet the 44×44 CSS pixel minimum target size.
Works without JavaScript
All content is server-rendered and readable with JavaScript disabled. Content is never hidden pending an animation that may not run.
What we know is not yet right
Published because a statement claiming no problems usually means nobody has tested properly.
- This site has not yet been audited by an independent accessibility specialist, and has not yet been tested with users who rely on assistive technology. Both are planned before launch.
- Video content is not yet published. When it is, captions and a full transcript will be published at the same time — our content model requires both before a video can be added.
- Te reo Māori terms are used inline without individual lang attributes in some places. We are reviewing how best to mark these so screen readers pronounce them correctly.

If any part of this site is difficult or impossible for you to use, please tell us — including which page, what you were trying to do, and what assistive technology you were using if that is relevant. We aim to respond within three working days and to fix genuine barriers as a priority over new features.
